Three years ago I was in the back seat of my mother's car while we were stopped at a red light and the driver behind us failed to stop. I was injured and that injury resulted in a diagnoses of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.  This causes me to have extreme burning pain from my neck down my right arm and into my hand constantly.  In fact the pain of CRPS is so severe that it is  referred  as the "suicide disease" because having constant extreme pain that never ends causes about 40% of those diagnosed with this condition to take their own lives out of desperation to end the pain.
Over the past three years, I have had multiple surgeries and hospitalizations both  directly because of the CRPS as well as due to various treatments to alleviate the symptoms of the CRPS.

So far all of the treatments and surgical interventions have been unsuccessful in treating my condition, and I am continuing to deal with not only the pain, but also the loss of  the use of my right hand.
Additionally, some of the treatments have caused unintended side effects leading to  infections and further hospital stays ( and bills).

I have been in traditional physical therapy several times a week since the diagnosis, but it is not making gains in treating the condition, it is only keeping my range of motion in my right hand from becoming more limited.
However, I know have an opportunity to participate in an intensive rehab program that my neurologist thinks would give me an opportunity to possibly get better control of the pain and symptoms of CRPS. This program is 6 hours a day and requires at least three days a week of participation, with the understanding that most patients attend between 45- 60 visits before meeting their goals and being discharged. It differs from traditional physical therapy because it combines biofeedback therapy, along with PT, OT, and talk therapy to offer patients more tools to cope with chronic pain as well as more intensive focus on treatment than a 90 minute visit twice a week at a traditional therapist can provide.
In order to attend this program I will have to take a significant amount of time off work as well as paying for co payments at a rate of  $50 a visit for the 45-60 visits. The accident has been very financially difficult for my family. The individual who hit my mother's car was under-insured and due to the specifics of the accident (who was at fault among other things) my insurance only paid for a small fraction of the bills.
With this in mind, I would be unable to explore further treatment options without the generosity of those who wish to donate. Please know that I feel incredibly awkward about taking donations for my treatment, as I am aware that finances are tight for many of us and everyone has bills to pay. Also please know that I am grateful beyond belief for those who give a few dollars, as well as those who just take the time to send good thoughts and prayers my way.
My hope is to be able to continue to use my right hand as long as possible to continue spending time with my family and enjoying my time training dogs.
Thank you!
