2020 Challenge: £1000

Daryl Best cycled a gruelling 115 miles from Wokingham to Bognor Regis and back in 2016 to raise funds for the Caribbean STEM Coaching Club.

Now Daryl is back at it again. He is on a quest to raise £1,000 for the Club in August 2020 by doing a 100 mile sponsored ride. Sponsor him, join him, help him to reach this target!

Our Mission

It is fortunate that our founding member CADSTI-UK in cooperation with the Caribbean Science Foundation (CSF) are committed to "assist with the diversification of the economies of the Caribbean Region by harnessing science and technology for economic development, thereby helping to raise the standard of living." We recognise that the current pandemic vindicates our long held belief in STEM as a solution to achieving long term prosperity. As has been widely publicised in the media, the Barbados government is making use of digital infrastructure to offer remote working from Barbados for up to 1 year. This is a direct response to loss of earnings from tourism. Being in lockdown, most people are restricted to working from home which relies on digital skills in the use of technologies like Zoom for work and pleasure. It has become apparent that the new normal requires us to be skilled with advanced tools. That is what is required in order to thrive in what is clearly a global digital village; which has become extremely competitive.

Why this 2020 Fundraiser?

We have been running the club for 5 years and have upskilled over 60 caribbean students and parents in the UK for a fast changing, technologically sophisticated jobs marketplace.

The economic crisis caused by COVID-19 is causing a significant rise in unemployment in the UK, and in particular among its Caribbean diaspora. At the same time, COVID-19 has accelerated digital transformation across industry sectors causing the digital skills shortage (which was very significant pre COVID) to get even worse.

In response to the COVID-19 economic crisis, leading global companies and educators recently developed valuable re-skilling resources with industry recognised micro-credentials, mapped to in-demand digital jobs. They have made these available for free or at a negligible cost (some only until December 2020). This offer includes important labour market insights, and job search tools and know how fit for purpose for a post COVID-19 digital economy.

Why support us?

It is a fact that the youth of today are the people who will be the success stories we want to hear about tomorrow. You can contribute to their success!

Our organisation is comprised of volunteers giving back to our community every chance we can in every way we could. We are experienced professionals who leverage our knowledge to anticipate the shifting baselines that challenge our community, such as COVID-19 and climate change.

As you read, you will find references to the people we work with, our activities in the UK and the work we do in the Caribbean. Our official documents, such as our accounts, are also online for your perusal.

Sponsor us, join us, help us to reach this goal!

"The CADSTI UK  community guided me through a very tough stage in my life and not only helped me academically but also emotionally. Attending the Caribbean STEM Coaching Club always cheered me up when I was feeling down as well as improving my confidence in Maths and Physics. " Rennae
