Care4Cats Rescue Neutering Scheme

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause which means so much to me.

Over the years cats have become increasingly popular and very often the pet of choice for those who work, or perhaps have limited mobility yet seek the love and companionship having a pet around can bring. While this is absolutely amazing, not only for cats but for our own wellbeing and that of the family but also for our community too. Cats make a wonderful addition, each bringing their unique characters, full of wit, charm and hierarchy. They rule, we serve! (As any cat lover knows). The increased popularity unfortunately has a detrimental side too. Over recent years, the number of cats needing rescue space has sawed. And rescues up and down the Country are doing their very best to cope with the demand but this is not easy in our current climate. Part of cat welfare and responsible ownership, although not illegal, it is vital that cats are neutered/spayed. And here at C4C we ensure all our cats are done prior to adoption so people don’t have to take the added cost into consideration. But if for whatever reason you do get you me cat from a rescue who neuter as part of their adoption package… it can prove costly if you don’t! Those that aren’t neutered face umpteen issues, ranging from behavioural to unwanted pregnancies, fighting injuries, road traffic accidents to disease and cancer. All of which carry a huge financial burden and can be life threatening. Rescues can not cope with the volumes of unwanted cats and kittens in their current state and have been at breaking point for a long time, with no let up in sight. Even Cats Protection are struggling with demands upon their neutering scheme, having to put a pause on it in many areas. This scheme has also been restricted to helping those on means tested benefits. Which impacts on those working but don’t fall into the low income threshold but are still low earners. Add to that the huge cost of living crisis which is effecting so many. If the largest cat rescue in the country is not able to cope with demand we know things are at unsustainable levels. What can we do about it? We can either moan or do something positive. So here at C4C we have decided to be proactive and tackle the problem at source. We are a small local grassroots charity run by volunteers, so where better to start than right here in our hometown - Loftus. Hopefully one day we can roll the scheme out to other geographical areas but for now we have to be realistic - from acorns a mighty oak will grow right. We are offering free neutering/spaying along with free microchipping to anyone that lives in Loftus (East Cleveland, UK). So if you are not eligible for the Cats Protection neutering scheme but are struggling financially and would like to get your cat neutered/spayed & microchipped at the same time so you ready for when the new law starts in June 2024.. which stipulates all domestic cats must be microchipped from 20 wks old or face being fined £500. Please do get in touch. The only way we are going to reduce uncontrollable numbers needing rescue space, and the untold pain and suffering amongst those that are not so fortunate is to tackle this at source - and that is neutering Let’s stop the unwanted litters before they are dumped, rehomed haphazardly, or worse killed at birth. Neutering has many benefits. And for the sake of £100 (approx depending on vet/region etc), it is money well spent, but it is also a lot of money if what you have is consumed on essential bills. We have already helped 7 cats through this scheme which is an amazing start but we need funds to continue. Cats are needlessly suffering and what rescues have to deal with day in day out is disgraceful, soul destroying, but it’s also a harsh reality of the world we live in. Thank goodness the majority are ok but we have to help those that are not. If we don’t stand up for these innocent cats who will! They are voiceless, pumped full of hormones they have no control over, no understanding of. These cats carry viruses that can and will kill them, they then pass them onto the kittens, and the cycle goes on and on. One cat at a time, let's change lives. Please help Care4Cats care for the cats in its home of Loftus with free neutering & microchipping. And allow us to roll out the help to our neighbours in the local area. The more we can raise the more we can help, the more we can help the less that will suffer.
