Care Fund for Ms. Sandy Duval

Sandy Duval has been the backbone of the Jacksonville State University Band's office since October of 2000, taking care of logistics and making sure that the well-oiled machine known as the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners runs smoothly. Her dedication to the program is surpassed only by her dedication to her granddaughter, Tala and her late daughter, Savanna, and it goes without saying that Sandy’s greatest strength is in her ability to care.

We are all grateful for the heartfelt things Sandy does for us and how her attention to small details makes a big difference in our lives. However, now, it is time for us to take care of Sandy.  Savanna’s death has been a devastating blow to us all, but especially and understandably, to her mother.  A mother’s love for a child is like nothing else in the world and nothing can be more devastating than for a mother to outlive her child.

Savanna was such an outgoing young lady with a warm and loving personality (she practically grew up in the University band's office building). The days when she would accompany Sandy to a game or other University events were very exciting for her and a treat for us to get to see her. Those short glimpses into the past have created a lifetime of memories for all of us that were fortunate enough to experience them. Savanna will live on in all of us, but especially, in Tala, her two-year-old daughter.

Tala will now be cared for by Sandy and Billy. Now, more than ever, they need our emotional and financial support. In these uncertain financial times, it is problematic enough to raise a child in a two-parent home. Now, they will have to do this on single incomes. Additionally, since Savanna did not have burial insurance, they will have to bear this financial burden as well. This GoFundMe page has been established to assist Sandy and Billy in continuing the dream that Savanna started: a dream making a better life for her child. We ask that you help us make this dream come true for someone who has given so much to all of us.

Surviving the death and loss of a child takes a dedication to life. Now, that life is represented in Tala as a promise to the future. Please help us help Sandy make this new commitment to living by contributing whatever your heart leads.
