Care for Sebastian during Chemo

Donation protected

Situation.

We are a family of three with 1 in route. Sebastian is our 15 month old boy and my wife and I are both active duty Marines. We took our son into the hospital(20171124) for a diaper rash the day after being thankful for all that we have and life threw us a curveball. Thankfully, during that visit, the Dr. noticed Sebastian's stomach was bigger than normal and by the end of the day, we were admitted to the hospital for a tumor growing in the left region of his torso. 2 weeks of MRIs, CT scans, tests and surgery, we find out our son has a 10 cm tumor on the left side of his torso. After removing the tumor and left kidney, our son was diagnosed with a Stage 3 Wilms tumor. Which to our surprise, happens to about 500 kids a year. Throughout all of this, Sebastian has remained in high spirits even when my wife and I couldn't. He completed the 1 week of daily radiation therapy, and has 6 months of Chemotherapy ahead.

Why GoFundMe.

The team working on our son recommended that we isolate our son from dogs, especially outside indoor dogs and daycare, because his suppressed immune system would put him at greater risk of infection. Our commands have done more than enough to accomodate us during this time but my wife and I are dual active and both have jobs that we cannot walk away from to support our son. My wife is 29 weeks pregnant. We have recently moved to a more sterile living space without our 2 dogs, whom we still need to relocate from CA to LA. We have checked and reduced our expenses, money going out, but we still need a nanny to help with care over the 6 months. We have reached out to many organizations for assistance but we are above the poverty line and don't fit into any category unfortunately. We make too much to receive help we need, but not enough to hire a nanny at the lowest rate of $500 /wk for 24-28 weeks, and that's not even close to the average of $18/hr. We don't have family members that can put their lives on hold and provide adequate, reliable care for 6 mo.

Most of all, dual active military life is stressful enough, but add Sebastian's care, care for a newborn in 2 months, and any other unexpected things that keep coming our way. It's starting to get overwhelming thinkinking about how we can perform our duties as Marines and give Sebastian the attention he needs. We don't want our son to be neglected in any way.

Now, before we started selling everything we own to fund this, we were encouraged to see what other people might give to help our situation since we are a family of service to this country.

As Marines, we are hard on ourselves and never turn to anyone for help, but we keep reminding ourselves that it's not about us, it's about the best care for Sebastian and he definitely deserves it. Thank you for considering and giving what you can. Below are pictures of who we are and Sebastian's Gung-Ho spirit.

Sidebar.

If anyone knows a nanny that is familiar with providing care for cancer patients in San Diego (preferably a nurse or nursing student) and wouldn't mind negotiating a rate we can afford, we would appreciate it if you contacted us in the comment section.
