Completely out of the blue, a year ago, during Easter 2021, our brother Cormac who was only 38, was diagnosed with an aggressive, life-threatening brain tumour.
In late 2020, whilst working as a primary school teacher in Hong Kong, Cormac started to notice slightly blurred vision and have some balance issues. Several MRIs later, he travelled home to Ireland for further invasive investigations.
On the morning of his flight home from Hong Kong, he married his fiancé Krystal (a wedding delayed twice already due to covid-19). A few short weeks later, our worst fears came true when his medical team at home confirmed that his diagnosis was aggressive cancer.
We still can’t believe that this is really happening. As a newlywed, what should have been the happiest time of his life has become a nightmare! All of our hearts are broken
From that point, Cormac has had a course of radiotherapy over the summer of 2021, followed by intense chemotherapy, which has weakened him immensely.
The pandemic has made a terrible situation even worse. It has isolated him from his family, friends, and the outside world when he needs support most.
Most of you will know that Cormac has always had very strong faith. Despite everything, Cormac has been true to his nature and has been so incredibly brave and positive throughout. This has helped him to have the positivity and determination to fight this illness and return to a better quality of life.
It has come to the stage now where Cormac urgently requires pioneering treatment abroad. With the support of his medical team, we have secured appointments at leading cancer hospitals in the USA, and they are ready to see Cormac immediately.
Treatment abroad involves travel, accommodation & insurance, and the medical costs will be extremely high. We are asking for your help in allowing Cormac a chance to access this.
We would give or do anything to help our brother. We know so many of you out there want to know how he is, and how can you help him. Every extra minute Cormac can gain from further treatment to spend with his new wife, his family, and friends, is so precious.
With Cormac’s permission, we have started this fundraising campaign and would kindly ask if you could donate anything that you can afford, and/or share the link on your social media platform. We can't do this without your help. If you have any trouble donating via gofundme, you can alternatively donate via PayPal: Please contact Niamh directly through facebook or email.
We understand that this is a tough time financially, but every single donation will help Cormac. We are usually a very private family, but when something like this happens, asking for help is vital.
This is the most important thing we have ever had to write or ask of anyone. We know that so many of you will want to help Cormac.
We must keep the faith and keep positive.
We ask that you will keep Cormac in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much.
