There is long-term recovery ahead for tens of thousands of Texans left behind from the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. The need for help in Texas is enormous and beyond what anyone can fathom.
We are immeasurably grateful to God that our daughter and her family were rescued early on Tuesday morning as water was rising inside their home. Communicating that we are thankful for their rescue is an understatement. Many thanks to social media and a plethora of friends across the nation who were helping us locate a rescue boat. Megan, her husband Chris, along with their three children Maddie (7 years), Connor (4 years) and Harper (8 months) are with Sam and Diana in San Marcos. Having them in a safe place is bringing us so much comfort as we begin to plan the first steps of assisting them in rebuilding their lives.
Just like 90% of the families living in the 500-year flood plain in Katy, our children do not have flood insurance. The immediate need for them, along with thousands of others, is immense.
We are thankful for those who are asking how they can help. We know the greatest thing you can do for them is pray. Due to the enormity of the expenses they are facing, we have begun this fundrasing campaign. We are hopeful this will help them begin the process of repairs when they are allowed to return to their home.
I want to stress and acknowledge our family represents a drop in this ocean of loss. We encourage everyone, everywhere to get involved somehow in helping Texans recover from the disaster that rolled across our lives last weekend.

***** Many thanks to all that have donated to the Cardenas Family Recovery Fund. We are greatly appreciative of your love for all of us. We are currently working with Go Fund Me to release the funds. They are requiring that I be very specific about who I am and my relationship to them so this is the purpose of this post. I am Diana Wiley and I live in San Marcos, TX. I am Megan's step mom. The funds raised in this campaign will go towards repairs to the Cardenas' home that are associated with the damage from subsequent flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey. Funds will be withdrawn by me and given to Megan and Chris for repairs. Any fees that the Go Fund Me campaign charges as service fees will be replaced by Sam and I so that they are made whole and receive 100% of funds collected through this campaign.
