The CARAF Centre

The CARAF Centre is a community organisation which aims to ensure families of African and Caribbean heritage and people from disadvantaged communities have the knowledge, skills and opportunities to achieve and live the best lives
possible.

The CARAF Centre has provided supplementary education, social support and cultural activities for children, young people and parents since 1980. However, with the increasing cuts in funding and the extreme competitiveness to secure funds from national trusts, we rely heavily on voluntary donations to fund our vital work.

On Sunday 30th August the Black Riders Association will be embarking on an 80 mile cycle from London to Southend (and back), to raise funds for The CARAF Centre services, and to help raise awareness about health and fitness post-COVID in our community. Our centre staff will also be completing Southend spin-cycle challenges, to ensure the most vulnerable families in our community can continue to be supported during these unprecedented times.

£3 a month could help pay towards learning resources for a child in our supplementary school.
£5 a month could pay towards a youth project activity day for a small group of young people.
£8 a month could help pay for a reading support lesson for a child.
£15 a month could pay towards the cost of emotional support for a child experiencing difficulties in school.
£25 a month could support the Education Advocacy Service providing free advice and casework support to families whose child may be at risk of school exclusion.
£100 could pay for an inexperienced parent to join a CARAF Centre parenting course.
