Captain Bill's Hurricane Recovery

Maria hit us heard with a category 5 storm. My wife Migdalia was off the island visiting her mother so I felt she was safe. We live on the East side of Puerto Rico so were the first to feel the fury of the wind. Our apartment is the only second story on the block and took the full brunt of the 150mph + winds. The walls are constructed of cinder block and withstood the force but the roof was made of timber and corrugated metal and was peeled back like a sardine can. The accompaning rains did the damage. Flooding the bedroom and kitchen, causing all the cabinets to fall off the walls when the supports became waterlogged.  On the outer porch(our laundry and storage space) is a cu--de-sac opening to the East, the force of the wind shoved the freezer, washing machine and dryer into a metalic mess at the far end. Storage racks that held clothing, artifacts from my historic voyages and various other personal items was ravaged by the water and were thrown into the floor in a wet goo that ended any possibility of salvage.
Druing the storm I was on the lower floor with an Aunt and we spent the time listening to the second floor being destroyed.
We are looking to replace the appliances, bedroom furniture, as well as other items lost.
Our hope is that FEMA will help with the structure which is Migdalia's Aunts only asset.

Migdalia will return as soon as the airport opens to incoming  flights and we will try to put our life back together, the possibility of relocation open if the repair can not be done in a timely fshion. In the mean time we will call upon the good graces of our aunt.
In spite of this setback we love Puerto Rico and will remain here, it is our home. We thank youfor your support and good wishes.
