WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
“Capitol Video” is a feature film done in a “mockumentary” style about the last video store open in Washington D.C. The film follows the family that owns the video store, focusing on two sisters, Ren and Roxanne. Roxanne is attached to their video store and its customers, while Ren desires to move away and start a career in the arts. Both girls are delusional in their pursuits, and as they change as people, will their relationship – and their store – stay the same?
“Capitol Video” isn’t just a nostalgia-trip about video stores, but it’s about how people change and evolve, and sometimes relationships don’t stay the same. It’s about friendship and sisterhood as well as appreciating the past while looking forward to the future.
WHY THIS STORY
Taylor Thomas grew up in her family’s video store, surrounded by movies. Her family owned and operated various video stores in the D.C., until they closed in 2011. The video store is very dear to her heart, and through this movie, we want to take advantage of a unique setting and topic.
WHAT WE NEED
Delaluz and Thomas are working with a lot of what they have. They have equipment, various props, and many locations locked- including that of the video store.
