Captain Iron Lung is our hero!

This fund is being started to help Lincoln and Cindy start enjoying life as Lincoln has made the decision to not resume chemotherapy or any other treatment. This means that treatment efforts have gone as far as it can for Lincoln and we have made the decision to transition to palliative care. At this point, palliative care (not hospice care) will shift the focus from treatment intended to cure/kill the cancer, to treatment focused on providing Lincoln with the best quality of life possible.

So what is the status? Lincoln has been feeling so much better since stopping his chemo. The most recent scans show that his cancer has progressed unfortunately. In the right lung, it is slightly larger, and now has appeared in his left hip (outside of the bone), left chest cavity (up against a rib) and one adrenal gland.

Lincoln will receive some injections of a medication intended to strengthen his bones. This will help keep the cancer that is butted right up against his hip and left rib from getting INTO the bone.  Lincoln already had a multi-faceted pain control plan in place and that will continue. Thankfully he has not needed to heavily utilize the pain control plan yet, so that leaves many pain control options still available to him.

Well....now Lincoln has a new "job".......it's called living life and living it to its fullest! Something we ALL should be doing every moment of every day! His Oncologist warned us to NOT be attached to any estimation of what a time frame may look like, and then chuckled that in Lincoln's case since he seems to take "estimations" as a personal challenge to GO BIG OR GO HOME, he wouldn't recommend putting too much thought into time frame.

So what can you do? That is a hard question to answer so early into adjusting to this transition ourselves. I'll start with your love and understanding. It is very important that all understand this was Lincoln's brave decision and I stand behind him but he does not want to be treated like an invalid or be tip-toed around. It is important that he does not suffer and that he remains the decision maker. He will be making decisions where to put what energy he has, and may not be able to do some activities. We think about the practical things; we have been making many high and seemingly endless payments on medical expenses. The Lord has provided every single thing we have needed without exception. We are pretty proud that the balance we are nibbling away at sits at just south of $15,000 but what I am trying to figure out is how to shift or delay if possible some payments so I can put monies into planning trips, events and activities to work on that bucket list.

The most important thing you can do for us is to pray us through this new journey we have now begun! Support Lincoln in his decisions and wishes and allow us to just be us!

This fund is being set up to help pay off some of Lincoln's medical bills and help provide Cindy and Lincoln with some money to start doing all the things they have wanted to do and never taken the time or money to do so.  We are asking everyone to look into their hearts to show Lincoln and Cindy what they mean to you.  What you can do to help is to keep them in your prayers and contribute to this fund allowing them to enjoy whatever time they have in the best way possible.

Thank you for looking into your hearts and helping us all to love Lincoln and Cindy through their challenging journey.
