My Mom's Fight
Just before Christmas, my mom and I were hit with news that turned our world upside down. She went to the doctors and was diagnosed with breast cancer. The specific type is called Triple Negative Breast Cancer (high grade invasive duct carcinoma) which is an extremely aggressive type of cancer and very rare. It's a type that is non-responsive to hormonal therapies and has a high chance of reoccurring throughout life.
My mom has been my absolute rock in my life. Throughout my childhood, she was always making sure that I had the absolute best chance at having an amazing life. She made sure I always had amazing birthday parties, lots of friends, and fun/interesting activities that I could explore. Now that I’m older, her love has only gotten stronger! She helped me travel to all different countries in the world so that I could experience the richness of life. She is always 110% supportive and when I have a problem, or am feeling down, she’s always ready to talk with me about anything. To have a parent that’s also your best friend is something that I will never ever EVER take for granted, even for a second.
After going through a rough divorce between 2012 and 2016, she took time to grieve the loss of her marriage. It was an extremely difficult time for her, but she never once stopped her continuous out pour of loving care. She did her very best to make things as normal as they could be. Even when things were not okay, she made them okay somehow and that’s just her magic. After all this, she went back to university to finish her degree in Psychology and became a practicing Therapist. People come to her with all sorts of life crises and problems, and she devotes her time to hearing them and doing everything she can to help them. Helping people is her passion and she is incredible at it.
The diagnosis came out of left field and it hit us like a freight train. We didn’t know what to do. She had always instilled the values of healthy living and natural medicine in me, but with such an aggressive cancer, deciding how to proceed was nerve-wracking. Originally, we had planned to just take the treatment to Mexico, but finances didn’t allow for such an expenditure so soon. So, she consulted with a doctor in California and has so far been on a very heavy cannabis oil regime, taking it 3 times per day. She also starts her first session of chemotherapy on February 19th. The combined treatment of cannabis and chemo give her a good chance at stopping the cancer’s growth, but that’s not enough because it is the cancer stem cells that need to be addressed (our medical system does not consider this). For the fact that this cancer is hard to cure and has a high chance of coming back, we are going to a treatment clinic in Mexico after the rounds of chemo and possible surgery.
Hope for Cancer is an alternative cancer treatment center in Mexico that specializes in non-toxic cancer therapies. They offer state of the art therapies that are available in Europe but are not available in Canada or the United States. My mom will be receiving over 200 treatments over the 22 days spent at the treatment center which gives her the best chance of curing the cancer at its root cause. All money raised will go towards the cost of the Mexico clinic as well as the cost of ongoing treatment afterwards.
Cost Breakdown for Donations:
22-day treatment in Mexico – approx. $80,000 CAD
Monthly ongoing home treatment for 1 yr. – approx. $25,000 CAD
Returning to Mexico for follow-up treatments – up to $20,000 CAD
Go Fund Me and currency exchange fees – up to $7500 CAD
