"F" Cancer: Lex's Medical Fund

Donation protected
2020 has brought many surprises, bumps in the road, and now the biggest one of all: Lex - at just 18 years old - has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  This all happened her first two weeks in school, away from home for the first time, loving dorm life and her amazing new friends at the University of Utah (Go Utes!).  Less than a month after her first class...surgery #1 was complete and just days away from surgery #2.

We are raising money to help with surgeries/hospital bills, chemotherapy, fertility (freezing eggs), healing treatments, awesome wigs, and the unknown costs still to come to ensure this amazing young woman has the longest life and the reproductive options a young woman deserves.

This is a shock to her entire family and much support is needed. Here's what we know so far:

Last December, Lex went to the doctor because she was feeling pelvic pain that was misdiagnosed as a common infection.  The pain didn't go away, but she was busy finishing high school, marching for racial injustice, working at Gus's BBQ, moving to Texas with her father, and preparing for college.  A trip to urgent care at the end of the summer yielded a diagnosis of endometriosis, which was misdiagnosis #2.

The pain persisted so she sought another opinion and a more thorough examination discovered a borderline tumor on both ovaries. Next up was a MRI that confirmed mass and suspicion of cancer.  At this point, her mom and sister dropped everything to come pick her up in Utah and rush her back to LA, while her dad flew in from Texas, and thanks to her Mom's connections in health care she was in surgery in days at the top cancer center in LA: City of Hope.

Friday, September 11, Lex underwent a laparoscopic biopsy in an attempt to verify the pathology of the tumors.  She is now scheduled for another surgery on Friday, September 18 to remove the masses, with the hope of only one ovary removed and not both. Chemo will begin after that.  The surgeon shared hope it was stage 2, but prepared us for the possibility of stage 3.

This has ruined her plan to be "back in Utah before Halloween" on top of being a surreal and scary experience for a 18 year old.  If you are in a position to contribute funds, it will help so we can ensure (1) a long and healthy life and (2) all her options for future motherhood.

If you could share this with others, and send your prayers, love and emotional support and energy we welcome and appreciate it!
