Cancer Treatment for Adele Cowgill

Donation protected
Our amazing best friend has been battling stage 4 colon cancer since 2015. Adele is 40 years old, has been married to Travis for 13 years and is the mother of two gorgeous little girls, Lulu, aged 5, and Tilly, aged 3.  We are asking for your generosity and support to ensure that she continues to receive much-needed treatment to prolong to allow her to have many more precious moments with her beautiful family.

Adele was originally diagnosed when she was 37 years old and 32 weeks pregnant with Tilly. Tilly was induced early and just ten days later Adele received lifesaving surgery of a colon resection and hysterectomy.  Recovering from surgery and having a premature newborn was extremely hard for all of the family, with the usual excitement of welcoming a tiny baby overshadowed by the uncertainty of Adele's future. However, knowing that they had to put up the fight of their lives in order to beat this awful disease, the family soon came to grips with what lay ahead and made numerous sacrifices in order to ensure that Adele got the best treatment available whilst managing to balance the needs of two small children.

Since 2015, Adele has received over 30 sessions of chemotherapy, 12 sessions of biological therapy, radio embolization and two lots of major surgery. Twice she has had the so-called “Mother of All Surgeries” but has bounced back each time with a determination and strength that has taken our breath away. It is an understatement to say that they have had a very tough time since Adele's diagnosis, but they have taken every challenge that has been thrown at them and giving up has never, ever been an option.   No doubt there are grey, dark days, but somehow she manages to keep these to a minimum and remains focused on her goal: to watch her two young daughters grow up.

Adele has been clear of disease twice, but each time has been given the devastating news that her cancer has returned.  Although her treatment options have become more limited, her response to chemotherapy has been very positive.   Adele has been able to undergo two radioembolization procedures to her liver, which now has only a small amount of the disease remaining and can be treated by a combination of cutting-edge treatments that are only available overseas.

What do we need?

The treatment that Adele desperately needs in order to provide her with the best chance of survival is extremely expensive and is not currently available on the NHS. Right now Adele and her family are funding the treatment themselves; this is a sum totalling tens of thousands of pounds. Clearly this massive strain on their finances is the last thing they need. The current fundraising target is what we all desperately hope will be enough to provide treatment to clear the remaining disease through further radiotherapy and maintenance chemo.

Many of you already know Adele, so you will have experienced first-hand what an incredible person she is.  She is bright, beautiful, funny, hardworking and a wonderful friend, daughter, sister and aunt. Most importantly of all she is a fantastic mummy to Lulu and Tilly and an ever-supportive wife to Travis.  It's hard to even imagine the absolute turmoil that this family is going through and we want to do all we can to help them.
