As Lyndsay’s birthday approaches, I began to feel the natural and normal emotions that coincide with the loss of a loved one. These emotions are particularly present on birthdays, holidays and other milestone events throughout the year. As I began my deepening emotional dive days ago, something started to hold me back. Lately I have been trying to find opportunities to turn negative emotions and situations into positive ones. It’s not easy to say the least, and I am not always successful. But I will keep trying, this is what she wanted after all.

Before Lyndsay passed away, she was outspoken with me about what she wanted for my life after she was no longer here with me. One of the things we would talk about the most is the shared experience we had gone through the last couple of years, what we were about to go through, and what I was going to do without her. While having these talks she was always very clear about one thing. “If our experience CAN help someone else, it NEEDS to”. This was very important to her, we went through a lot together, and learned many things that no one could ever prepare for. While a lot of these things we just had to get through together, some of them were made easier thanks to the wonderful people at the hospital, cancer center, and hospice services.

I am working on something that will hopefully be a benefit to other families in similar situations and inform the healthcare community to better assist those people and their families. This project has been good for me to be able to turn negative into positive and honor my wife and what was important to her.

After being my best friend for 20 years she knew me so well, better than I knew myself most of the time. I think she kept planting this seed knowing that this is what I needed to be doing to take care of myself and have a positive impact on the world around me.

I would also like to honor Lyndsay and continue the positive impact that SHE undoubtedly had on the world around her by supporting the services that aided in our journey together.

Please consider donating to provide resources to the invaluable cancer - hospice providers that people rely on every day. And help these people and their families as they go through their journey together.  Thank you.
