Cancer Research Support 2021

We recently heard that, if the cost of the COVID-19 vaccine was broken down per person in the UK, it would cost around the average price of a coffee (£2.44 is the average price of a coffee in the UK - thank you Google!) As you all know, our amazing UK scientists have discovered a vaccine that has been entirely funded by the Government and the NHS - from our hearts, thank you.

However, because of the necessary focus on COVID-19, Cancer Research UK has lost out on funding and donations they rely on each year to save our loved ones.

So, we thought, for the price of a coffee which we would, personally, pay for in a blink of an eye... this value now equates to the COVID-19 vaccine we will all eventually receive... what can we do with the price of the vaccine (a coffee) to help elsewhere? Due to the effects of COVID-19, Cancer Research UK has had to cut its research funding by £45 million. This is around half of what the charity would normally expect to be spending at this time, and it means dozens of potential life-saving projects and hundreds of world-class scientists have been left unfunded. This devastating blow is on top of the £44 million cut made to current grants at the start of the pandemic. These cuts will have long-term effects. A shrinking research portfolio will not only slow down future breakthroughs for people with cancer but could seriously reduce the chances of reaching the charity’s goal of 3 in 4 people surviving their cancer by 2034.
