Cancer Patients in the Gaza

Donation protected
The number of cancer patients in the Gaza Strip is about 8,500 patients, including 640 children, who face severe health conditions, due to the continuous shortage of medication, medical supplies, and diagnostic and treatment devices needed to treat them, in addition to the shortage of professional doctors specialized in oncology, the exacerbation of the fuel crisis in hospitals and the frequent electricity crisis. Moreover, the restrictions imposed by the Israeli authorities on the travel of sick children and their companions for treatment abroad are among the most prominent obstacles that prevent these patients from receiving the required treatment.

This is Ayat Zaqout 12 years old; a cancer patient who lost her father a month ago because of cancer as well. Her father’s death caused her a deep grief. He was her hero! The Hero who used to tell her that they would survive together and that cancer is nothing to be afraid of!

When she describes what happened with her, she says:

“I used to feel pain in my throat all the time and go to the doctor for that when someday Mom has told me that I have cancer. I did not know what that mean but it seemed to me that it is something bad because she was crying! Later, I figured out the reason for my father’s permanent sickness.

What made me feel a little bit safe then is that Daddy used to tell me what I will feel every time I try new medication, but he is not here anymore to tell me so. Mom is beside me now but she keeps crying all the day, maybe because she’s afraid that Daddy would come one day  and takes me to live where he is. I always tell Mom that I want the three of us to live together, and I asked God for that. Mom says that God do not refuse children wishes. I love drawing so much that’s why I drew God defeating the Cancer monster because he killed Daddy and makes Mom cries day and night”.

This campaign is to provide a number of the cancer patients, in the Gaza Strip, who cannot meet their needs, 100$ in order to be able to bring the medication and therapeutic needs. Worth to mention, 70% of the people of Gaza suffer from food insecurity, and 33.8% of them live below the extreme poverty line where the current situation is getting worse after the spread of COVID-19.
