This is an old picture of my fiancé and me in the midst of a wonderful family vacation.  A "before" picture, if you will.  The picture of a blissfully happy & healthy mother of three great kids, standing beside the love of her life. A perfect life of contentment &  finally at peace with herself, she could handle anything.  Nothing could destroy this bliss. Before.
Jump to now.  I'm  45 & still a mom to three great kids, but we've added a beautiful  three year old granddaughter who has me wrapped around her perfect little finger. The love of my life, Scotty, is still  beside me, & even more amazing than he was before. Life is still  beautiful to me, only now it's  more precious.
The signs were there, but my conscious mind deliberately ignored them, chalked them up to minor issues and being a woman getting older. After about a year of increasingly worse symptoms & pain, I gave in & saw a doctor on March 4th, 2020. She sent me straight to the local ER, where an ultrasound & CT scan was done. That's the moment that separated "before" from now. The tests revealed what the doctors deemed a "massive" tumor. Cervical cancer, stage 4, inoperable. Scotty was right beside me to hear the words and  diagnosis. Neither of us had a clue what it truly meant.
Since then, I've been through external radiation & chemotherapy, a failed surgical attempt to put a stent in a blocked ureter, & an excruciating round of interstitial brachytherapy (internal radiation), all with minimal to no successful results. Followed by acute kidney failure & a bilateral nephrostomy. Scotty hasn't left my side through all of it...the countless sleepless nights, the emotional and mental rollercoaster, the side effects and complications, numerous missed work days, his added responsibilities, and the pressures to provide and handle all of it. The list of changes, and what my diagnosis meant, is endless.
I'm currently  doing immunotherapy treatment & working with Cancer Treatment Center of America. It means regularly traveling & Scotty missing work, as the treatment is an indefinite thing. Add to that the cost of medicines & supplies my insurance won't cover, along with a myriad of miscellaneous expenses, & the financial pressure can be overwhelming. So far we've been extremely blessed. I couldn't have come this far without my soul mate beside me. With the help of God, our incredible family & friends, & the kind-hearted donors to this fundraiser, we have kept our heads above water & overcome so many obstacles. I'm grateful beyond words to those people for their prayers, love, & donations.
I am now praying that this blessing continues, so that we can continue to fight, and I can be there for my family for those important moments, big & small.  To see my baby boy graduate from college. Bring a special gift to my oldest son's housewarming. Dance at my daughter's wedding. Watch my granddaughter play a carrot in a school play. All with Scotty holding my hand & right beside me, as he's always been. With continued love & support I can keep fighting & see these dreams become reality. Thank you for taking the time to read this, & for any help you give, in any form, be it a prayer, share, or a small contribution to this fundraiser. God bless you.
