Canadian Fundraising for Black Futures Lab

Black Futures Lab  is an incredible organization founded by Alicia Garza, one of the co-creators of Black Lives Matter.

BFL currently has two major programs:
- The Black Imagination Incubator, which gathers information about the ways that policy affects Black communities and creatively uses that information to educate and challenge policymakers.
- The Shirley Chisholm "Unbought and Unbossed" Black Politics Project, which brings together community engagement; community mobilization and education; policy and alternative policy models; and active engagement and advocacy with elected officials and legislators.

Previously, BFL led the Black Census Project, the largest survey of Black people conducted in the United States since Reconstruction. Over 30,000 Black people from across the country participated in the Black Census Project, providing their views, political beliefs, concerns, and aspirations.

BFL is also:
- The creator of the the Black to the Future Public Policy Institute, a policy advocacy and leadership training fellowship that provides the tools needed to transform Black communities into constituencies that wield independent, Black political power at the municipal, state, and federal levels.
- The force behind Black to the Ballot, which registers, engages, and activates Black voters through both a national voter registration drive and the Black Agenda 2020 – a policy agenda that translates the Black Census results into a policy platform that empowers Black communities.

I strongly encourage you to check out the details of all these initiatives here.

There are three ways that Black Futures Lab is a different kind of project for change:
1. Their mission to engage Black voters year-round.
2. Their commitment to use our political strength to stop corporate influences from creeping into progressive policies.
3. Their plan to combine technology and traditional organizing methods to reach Black people anywhere and everywhere.

In short, Black Futures Lab is working to create deep, Black-led systemic political change.

While BFL is growing rapidly, the organization is not currently set up to receive donations from Canada. My goal is to raise $1,000 from Canadians and send these funds to BFL via the Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign

To be clear: BFL is not a registered Canadian charity, and these donations will not be tax deductible.

Thanks, friends.
