Our Oxnard campesin@s are being affected by COVID-19!!! If we can show so much PRIDE in being an agricultural community, which is best known for its Strawberry fields, then let’s also make sure our farm workers who pick those strawberries & other produce, are well taken care of.
Farm workers who migrate here for the season & don’t have any family, are the ones getting infected. They have a right to be informed of the dangers & be provided with appropriate protective gear to face this pandemic. They’re the ones putting their lives at risk for us to have food on our tables!!
Up to 7 campesinos are quarantined together in one room!!! That is UNJUST! UNSAFE! AND INHUMANE! Our paisanos need to be given appropriate shelter, unemployment benefits while they’re off work, and be educated about COVID-19... how to be safe, and how to stop the spread, AND in Spanish if they need it.
I originally posted my concern on Facebook & after many people reposted my post & commented about what can be done, I decided to initiate this GoFundMe. Proceeds will be used to aid the farm workers who are now unemployed & receive no benefits. They will have medical expenses and bills to pay.
They have picked the food that sits on our tables, now we can help put food on theirs.
OUR GENTE NEEDS US!!! SIEMPRE UNIDOS!!!
