For those who don't know, our wonderful, hilarious, thoughtful, talented and utterly one-of-a-kind friend Julie Kim has recently learned that her battle with cancer is entering a new phase. After being successfully treated for breast cancer in 2014/2015, Julie has learned that her cancer has returned.
Last week, after a visit to the ER for a painful migraine and vision problems, Julie was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Within three days, she was admitted to Toronto Western Hospital and underwent surgery to remove the tumour. Next week, she will begin additional testing and treatment at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Alex and I are setting up this crowdfunding page, because so many people have asked us what they can do to help and support Julie through this time and if they should send flowers etc. We thought, rather than spending $50 dollars on a bouquet, why don't we all pool our money and do something to really make a difference in Julie’s life?
Because she recently left her job and apartment in Toronto in order to pursue a new path and return to school in the fall, Julie is no longer covered under a group health insurance plan and her access to LTD may be limited. All funds raised through this campaign will go directly to Julie to help her cover the cost of living in Toronto for the duration of her treatment, as well as medical/drug expenses in the next weeks and months, as she works towards her recovery.
If you know Julie at all, you know that she is an incredibly strong, fiercely independent and fundamentally giving person. Accepting help isn't easy for her, but she has given us her blessing to post this campaign and is deeply grateful for your love and support.
