On Mother’s Day (Sunday May 9th) Cameron Dieudonne suffered a major heart attack due to blood clots in multiple of his heart’s vessels. This situation may seem sudden, but as some of you may know Cameron’s health has been declining for the past 8 months. Back in October of 2020 Cameron was hospitalized with a clot in his left lung. This came as a complete shock to everyone who knows Cameron, the active and bright spirited entrepreneur. After a week long stay in the hospital, he was released on multiple medications. For the remainder of the year he met with doctor after doctor (primary care, hematologist, pulmonologist, etc) and no one was able to find out why he got the initial blood clot. Being a previously healthy 28 year old made it easy to dismiss the cause and just treat his symptoms.
A few months later in March of 2021, Cameron was again hospitalized due to pericarditis (inflammation around the heart). After another short hospital stay, he was again treated with medication and sent home without any answers as to why this was happening.
Fast forward to May 9th 2021, upon waking up Cameron felt dizzy to the point of passing out. He was rushed to the emergency department where they performed multiple tests and determined that he had suffered a heart attack. They immediately took him to the catheterization lab to remove the blockage in his heart and place a stent. Unfortunately, the procedure was unsuccessful. He was then flown by helicopter to Advent Health South, who has a team which specializes in heart failure. After numerous lab tests, imaging studies and a heart biopsy, the doctors were finally able to get to the bottom of Cameron’s declining health. He was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease known as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), which has been attacking his bodies’ organs. His doctors immediately started medication to help control his disease, but unfortunately the damage to his heart was already too severe.
His doctors are now in the process of coming up with the best plan of action for Cameron’s future. At the moment he is not eligible for a heart transplant due to his Lupus, so his doctors are exploring all possible options. One potential plan is a LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) which is a mechanical device that is surgically implanted in the chest to help the heart function properly. As of now Cameron has been in the ICU for 3 weeks and will remain there until his doctors come up with a final plan. This time has been extremely hard on Cameron and his family but he remains in good spirits and thanks everyone for their continued prayers.
