Cal Calamia's NYC Marathon Prize Money

Donation protected
Cal Calamia won the nonbinary division at the 2023 NYC Marathon and was denied the $5000 prize money due to an unpublicized rule change that was implemented after they had registered. After Cal won the nonbinary division, NYRR informed them that NYRR had put a new policy in place that the prize money for the nonbinary division would be given to the first nonbinary finisher who had also completed in 6 other NYRR races in the same year. You can listen to their story on the Runners of the Bay Podcast (link TKTK)

Cal won the NYC Marathon's nonbinary division and rightfully deserves the prize money. Since NYRR refuses to recognize and reward Cal's win, we are asking our community to rally behind them.

Cal is an inclusivity activist who has fought for equality and inclusion in the sport for trans and nonbinary runners. Our community is so grateful for the work Cal has done and is proud to stand behind them and the work to make running a place where everyone can compete and be celebrated for their accomplishments!

NYRR's press release announcing its nonbinary division and the prize money eligibility requirements say nothing about a race participation requirement.

Runners of the Bay emailed (1/10) and left a voicemail for NYRR (1/16) but has yet to receive a response.
