For those of you that know Caiden and the struggles that he's already faced will already know just how much this little boy has overcome. Caiden is a happy, determined amazing 5 year old boy who brings a smile to everyone that meets him. So let me rewind a few years to when his struggles first began, Caiden did not meet his milestones like other children his age and was eventually diagnosed with Cerebral Diplegia at around 2 years of age. At this stage we were warned he may never sit up, roll over or walk and that we faced a very long road ahead of us as a family. Caiden being the determined happy little boy he is was not going to let some doctors advice hold him back or stop him in his tracks and continued to show his strength in wanting to be just like any other child of his age, we saw this determination in him and with the help of family, friends, go fund me and other fundraising which we did managed to get him a special walker which did enable Caiden to find his feet. This was the breakthrough Caiden needed and deserved. We could not thank people enough for their kindness and support. Unfortunately though, due to his lower limbs being weak through his condition, Caiden can only walk very short distances before needing support of his McLaren Major Elite special needs pushchair. Even the short walk to school he is unable to manage without the assistance of his pushchair, we rarely leave the house without it as he relies on it heavily to support his condition. We have reached a stage where Caiden, along with other children his age are more aware of Caiden having to use a pushchair, this has resulted in bullying from his peers at school as they are unable, uneducated or just too young to understand the fact that he has a disability. This has had a major impact on Caiden's self esteem and confidence where he is now refusing to use his pushchair on the journeys too and from school and would rather put up a struggle, always resulting in him having to be carried or breaking his heart when he has no option but to go in the pushchair. We could easily choose the option of looking into a child's manual wheelchair but Caiden has always tried to maintain his own independence which as parents we don't want to take this away from him. We think Caiden has now reached an age where he will benefit from an electric wheelchair for his age and size, where he will be able to learn to independently have his mobility and also set him up for the future. We once again ask for your help and support in making this a reality for Caiden as this would mean so much to him and us as a family. Thank you for taking the time to read this and as always, your help and support is greatly appreciated.
