Café de olla anyone?!
Imagine a colorful and uniquely immersive coffee experience. One that you quickly recognize as familiar and takes you back to moments with abuelita, chats with your favorite tia or moments of union with family. Nuestra cultura is one full of color, tradition and ritual, and café is at the center of it all. Café Alchemy is bringing café and cultura together in a new educational way that embraces culture and will rekindle your love for coffee in ways you didn’t even know were possible. While yes this is my vision, the fruits are for my community. This is for my Fresno community. But I need your help.
Here is my open letter to my community, friends and family:
Let me start by sharing a little bit about myself. My name is Elizabeth Fraire, but friends call me Liz. I am a first-born and first-generation a lot of things, including first to graduate college with a degree in business logistics management and finance. Bulldog forever, go Fresno State! I am also a Tech Sergeant within the Air National Guard and have served for over 12 years. To no one’s surprise, I’ve always been obsessed with coffee. Where it comes from, how it tastes, the way it builds community. It’s been part of me at all stages of my life.
We dream and dream until one day, we are done dreaming. That day came this year. I got tired of dreaming about Café Alchemy and decided to go full force in making this vision a reality. I am on a mission to create a new coffee experience. What does that even mean right?! Well, it means I got tired of seeing the same thing everywhere. I got tired of seeing coffee being sold as just coffee. I wanted more. Coffee is much more. It is a binder, an instigator, and agitator. Coffee is educational, it is economy. Coffee is culture. Coffee is… life (for me at least). Could I possibly create and experience that encompasses all of this? Yes, yes I can.
Café Alchemy will offer a carefully curated environment where you can enjoy a damn good cup of café de olla, while learning about its origin. The menu created and inspired with the Latinx community in mind. Y Mas! What if I told you that by purchasing a cup of Café Alchemy’s coffee you would be supporting growth and independence for disadvantage families in Mexico! #cafeconcausa Yes this is all part of the Café Alchemy vision. With a largely Hispanic / Latinx population in Fresno and Central Valley, having a coffee experience that is representative of our culture makes sense! Typical of my personally, I always like to be part of change, even if it means working at it a little harder. That is why Café Alchemy will be located at the heart of downtown Fresno right next to Common Space.
Truth is creating a brick-and-mortar social enterprise from the ground up is challenging. In fact, since I started the process, it’s quickly become one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. Yet, I am sure, more than ever that this is my purpose.
I need your help raising startup funds. This is an opportunity for my friends, family and fellow coffee enthusiast to be part of the Café Alchemy journey. Being part of an early endeavor is truly a unique and beautiful experience, knowing that years from now we can all look back and think wow I was part making that happen.
So with an open heart I ask, will you be part of this journey with me and donate what you can. My first phase goal is to raise $5,000.
Simply stated, if I can get just 50 friends to donate $100, we would be at our goal.
