The Connelly Household

In 2012 we started the search for our "forever" home.  A home we could build for our family that would be a home our kids would want to hang out at, bring their friends over and one day bring their children home to.  A home that would be big enough for both of our families to come to for parties, holidays, and get togethers. At the end of 2012 we found a plan and in March of 2013 we began building with St. Lawrence! 

We were so excited to be a part of the building process. We were going to get to pick colors, materials and get to see it all from start to finish.  We had no idea that all those things would change dramatically! We soon found out that our builder had embezzeled our money.  Used money the was paid to him for subcontractors and material providers and gambled it all away.  Lien notices started coming in....all for contractors and materials that we had already paid for in reimbursement to our builder! Our builder all of a sudden, "unavailable". We were devastated.  It happened in what seemed like just minutes. We learned he was able to take so much more than we thought by providing invoices that were falsified to draw more money out. 

A year and a half later, we are still picking up the pieces. Some of his contractors that he had paid out said they were going to finish.....they never showed up again.   The construction loan is depleted thanks to his gambling the funds away, and we are trying to finish it on our own.  We have had some really great contractors help with reducing costs and friends that have stepped in and helped when needed.  We are just trying to finish, pay off the liens and still close and move in.  We have been blessed and humbled in many ways through this experience.  It truly has been an eye opener and we have learned many lessons along the way.
