"Love Changes Everything"

"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."
Mark 12:30-31

Family & Friends,

God has blessed me with the opportunity to move to Opelousas, Louisiana to be a High School Director for a nonprofit organization called Hope for Opelousas (HFO). The city of Opelousas has a population of 16,000 people with 44% of it's people living under the poverty line. HFO started in 2008 when a group of individuals saw the need for the gospel's hope and love in this city. After doing several outreach events, a year later HFO purchased a house and started tutoring 12 children. Fast forward seven years, they now have 70 students ranging from 4th to 12th grade. My job will be centered around assisting high school students in reaching their fullest potential through academics, mentoring/community building, and spiritual development leading them towards the reality of "Love Changes Everything"- and that reality is found in Christ Jesus.

For those who know my story, know I have had great mentors in my life that have helped in molding me into the person that I am today. Through the love, care and challenges that those men gave me; I have developed a passion and desire to mentor underprivileged young men and women.

God has used the last two years to prepare and grow me for this opportunity. I've worked at Kids Across America (an inner-city summer sports camp) and Hillside Inc. (a mental hospital for adolescents). I have also attended Blueprint Church's Imprint Institute and completed a internship with the North American Mission Board (Generation Send). Not only am I ecstatic about this opportunity to change the lives of young people through the love of Christ, but I'm also ecstatic about having the opportunity to marry my best friend Nasia on August 8, 2014. As Nasia and I transition to Opelousas, Louisiana on August 17, 2014 I ask that you join us on our new journey. If you are interested in supporting us through love, prayer, or a financial donation to assist us on our journey we will greatly appreciate it!

In love,
Emanuel Woods
