Kylie Butter is 13, lives in Sparks, NV and has severe scoliosis. Her curvature is 80% which will eventually affect her lungs and heart and create a severe abnormality of the chest wall. Several of Kylie's ribs have twisted and relocated on her back shoulder. Kylie has been referred to Shriners Hospital of Sacramento where they have the expertise to treat this condition. Kylie is scheuled for surgery on December 15, her surgery will take 7- 8 hours. Kylies medical team will install two rods and screws to her spine and will straighten her spine with halo traction, she will be 3 inches taller when done. They will also relocate her ribs to their correct location and attach them. Kylie will be in ICU for three days where they can manage her pain better and will probably be in the hospital until after Christmas. Kylie will be out of school for 3 months and will start physical therapy after that. Her complete recovery will take up to a year.
Kylies mother Shannon is a single mom raising two kids. She works as a shipper at a book warehouse making an annual salary between 15k-18k a year. Shannon is taking family leave (FMLA) for three months to care for Kylie. This go fund me account has been created to help Kylie's family with living expenses for the three months and ease the financial burden so Kylie's family can concentrate on her recovery. We are thankful for Shiners Hospital, who has donated their services and Kylies medical team for taking care of Kylie. Kylie is a strong, brave beautiful girl who will wheather the days ahead with the courage we all know she has. Please share Kylies story, donate if you can and remember the work that Shiners does for children at no cost to families when giving to charities. Thank you.
