Albert Soliman is an amazing friend, brother, son and most importantly - a dad to my siblings and I. He has always been there for us, attending concerts, graduations, sporting events even when he was tired form work. I never heard him complain. Our family has faced many difficulties in our life, but he has remained resilient and strong for us.
Since 2010, our family has been financially unstable. The architecture firm that he worked for closed due to slow business due to the economy. My mom was unable to work since she needs to take care of my youngest sister who has a medical condition as well. My mom took on some odd jobs to make ends meet. I took on some jobs myself, but unfortunately, it is not enough to support the five of us.
In July 2014, when he came back from work, he was feeling a lot of pain. It was so painful that he could barely stand. We all thought it was just him getting older, so we tried to change his diet and encouraged him to exercise more. But as the week went on, we noticed how quickly my dad’s health deteriorated. He lost a lot of weight quickly and he experienced a lot of difficulty moving. Each day, he felt a bit more lethargic, so we decided it was time to have him checked out.
It was then that we received the worst news of our lives. My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer. It had apparently been there for quite some time but was finally presenting itself. But, since my dad always put us before himself, he didn't chalk up the pain to being anything other than normal aches and pains from getting older.
In October, his condition quickly took a turn for the worse. Lancaster, PA is not a small town, but his condition was bad enough that the hospital could not treat him, so he was rushed to Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. There, he almost lost his life twice but by the grace of God and the amazing medical team there, he survived. He spent about a month there, stablizing his body. In November, he was able to return home and recover here. My dad had been bedridden for awhile, but now, he has recovered to the point that he could do a lot of daily tasks on his own.
Nearly a year after his diagnosis, he is unfortunately back in the hospital. He returned on July 10th and spent a week recovering. He returned home on the 18th. On the 20th, we had to rush him back to the ER because he was feeling extremely lightheaded. He is still in good spirits, but he is unfortunately in critical condition. We are taking this day by day, but it is really taking a toll on our family mentally and financially. My mother has had to take several days off to care for my father, and with the school year coming up, my brother and I can only work so many hours to help support the family.
Our wish is for him to be able to stay with us for as long as he can. It would really mean a lot to my family and I if you could donate a few dollars to help alleviate the financial burden of the cost of my dad's treatment and hospitilization. This would also help my dad mentally so he does not have to worry about us struggling to pay for his treatment.
