A New Heart for Khuyen (Heart Surgery)

Khuyen is 13 years old. By the way Khuyen is pronounced as Quinn as in the English surname. Khuyen was three months premature and weighted only one kilogram when she was born. She was a Blue Baby. Khuyens parents are from one of the poorest areas in Vietnam. Less than 200 kilometers South of Hanoi. Her parents Khang and Lien left their children with their grandparents and came South to the Central Highlands of Vietnam to the city of Dalat to seek a better life for their family. They had been apart for more than five years as a family unit. Phone calls and the occassional visit was their only contact during this period.
Khuyen has now been diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot a congenital heart defect. This is a problem with the heart's structure that's present at birth. Congenital heart defects change the normal flow of blood through the heart. Tetralogy of Fallot is a rare, complex heart defect. It occurs in about 5 out of every 10,000 babies. Tetralogy of Fallot involves four heart defects:
A large ventricular septal defect (VSD)
Pulmonary (PULL-mun-ary) stenosis
Right ventricular hypertrophy (hi-PER-tro-fe)
An overriding aorta.
Khuyen has been falling unconscious many times in her short life. She tires out very easily, but to look at her, you would see a happy girl. But you would also notice that Khuyen is small. 22 kilograms is what she weighs now.
My Vietnamese wife Mai took Khuyen and her father Khang down to Saigon to the Institute of Heart Hospital where her condition was verified and an approximate amount of 100,000,000 VND (5,500USD) was suggested as the outcome for "A New Heart for Khuyen (Heart Surgery)". This covers medical expenses only.
Myself. Well I'm an Aussie who has been in Vietnam for the past 6 years. And, sad to say, this is a common problem here in Vietnam. Many poor families who have sick relatives and can't afford the medical expenses.
