Vet Bills for Acadia (and other PAD pups

*Acadia began presenting signs of illness around 4pm 7/25. Her gait was slightly off with an occasional limp. There was no fall, or any incident. She was placed on crate rest with anti inflammatory meds for 48 hours. On 7/27 she was seen by our Emergency Vet and has significant pain in her front right shoulder. Xrays were thought to have shown OCD. On 7/28 she was seen by an Orthopedic Veterinarian who re-xrayed and thought she had a broken growth plate in her right elbow, splinted and given tramadol for pain while we got a second opinion for the invasive surgery they recommended. At this point we had spent only around $650. Acadia began going down hill around 7pm that night. Her pain was extreme, and she was stiff all over. We arrived at the Matthew J. Ryan University of Pennsylvania Vet Hospital ER at 8:55am on 7/28. She was triaged immediately and seen by the ER team within minutes. They did a thorough physical and got her history also before taking her to the back. Over the next 9 hours she was seen by the ER team, orthopedic team, and neurology team. In addition her xrays were reviewed by radiology and the senior radiologist. No one found any OCD or fractures anywhere. Her pain and now rising temperature were a complete mystery. They started her on Methadone which made her pain manageable but not gone. She was admitted into the Internal Med ICU with a $2,000 deposit (YOUR DONATIONS!! THANK YOU!!!) Her resident and intern are with her every day, all of the specialist listed above have seen her again as well as Dermatology, Pediactrics and Infectious Disease. Acadia has been stumping all of them. They have gotten her temperature down! She has had new xrays - no fractures for sure! She has had tests sent for everything you can possibly imagine. Were waiting for results on most and now joke Acadia's middle name is OR. Because it's always this diagnosis OR that. We have visited her every other day and Friday 8/1 she walked for us!!! The teams best guess as to what's going on is something with her immune system. Her bill is over $7,000 PLEASE HELP US BY DONATING! It has been $650 for first ER/xrays & ortho consult/xrays, $2,000 (1/2 of Upenn ER) and 3 tanks of gas back and forth - $2,800 which left on $200 from all of our funds raised up to today 8/2!! Acadia has a LONG road ahead of her!!
* Nantucket is one of PAD Irish's Seaside Treasures. The litter was born 5/30 and raised to be service dogs in Phoenix Assistance Dogs, Paws with a Cause and 4 Paws for Abilities. Nantucket injured his leg on July 9th and was immediately seen by the vet, xrayed and put on Deremaxx and crate rest. However, it was quickly apparent that he wasn't improving as he should. He was seen and re-xrayed on July 21st when he was diagnosed with a growth plate injury off of his tibia bone in his back right leg. He was placed in the hospital and fitted with a cast immediately. Nantucket will be re-casted every 7 days. His prognosis won't be known until he continues to grow. He may have no lasting issues and grow normally, however, that leg could stop growing too. He will also see an orthopedic veterinarian to follow up and ensure that everything is being done that should be done! Your help will go towards his veterinary bills. He had his first recasting on 7/29/14 and as of now his leg is growing which means he can still be a service dog! His bills after all recasting if no complications arise will be around $2,500!
*Megatron is 7 month old lab in training, donated by a kind woman who rescued him. He had emergency surgery to remove a swallowed squeaker from his small intestines on 7/24. He is in recovery and will remain at the vet while his bowel heals. His surgery alone (not including xrays, medications, hospital stay) was $1,800.
*Irish's Seaside Treasure's were a very much planned litter. Irish and her stud have OFA good hips, and clear elbows. They both have clear eyes, heart and thyroids. Irish, additionally has a Pennhip score of being in the 80th percentile. She is clear of vWD, NE and DM. The litter has been cleared of any calcium deficiency.
