Service Dog for GAGE

Our sweet Gage was diagnosed with PDD, an Autism Spectrum Disorder.  We, as well as his team of therapists, believe he would benefit significantly from the help of a trained service dog.  Will you help us acheive this goal?

PDD stands for Pervasive Developmental Disorder and is characterized by delays in the development of socialization and communication skills.  These delays include difficulty in understanding and using language, relating to people, difficulty in changes in routine or surroundings, anxiety in social settings and difficulty understanding the world around them.  Other symptoms include increased sensitivity to taste, sights, sounds, and touch as well as demonstrating repetitive or ritualistic behaviors.  

Although we have been involved with Early Intervention for some time and have been working with a speech, occupational, and behavior therapist we believe the use of a service dog would help our son tremendously by:

-Helping to reduce anxiety
-Enhance his socialization skills
-Improve sleep habits and reduce the frequency of night terrors
-Help to teach him empathy
-Soothe him during his meltdowns, and reduce the frequency of episodes
-Aid him in his existing therapy methods
-Interrupt and halt undesirable behaviors
-Help him with transitions and changes in routine
-Provide love, warmth, and security

We've recently been accepted into a service dog program (our puppy will be ready to come home in 6 weeks) but desperately need help to cover the cost.
