Madalynn Rae Ware was born on December 19, 2013 with Fibular Deficiency. What this means is her fibular bone is missing in both legs and both of her feet are bowed outwards And missing 2 toes on each foot. She is to undergo a double amputation of her feet in the next few months. Madalynn recently has started pulling up so it will not be long now because her feet cannot support her weight. Her prosthetics will be the "norm" for her, as it will be all she will ever know or remember.
The home in which they live is an extremely old family home and needs a lot of updating. It only has one bathroom which is in need of several repairs to the structure and plumbing. New toilet and bath tub are both in need of replacing. The house has never had central air/heat (only window units) for cooling the entire house. The heat source for winter is a space heater that we fear our baby girl will get hurt on eventually but we do watch her very closely. Last winter she was an infant so this year will be a different kind of struggle keeping her away from it. There are several soft spots in the floors throughout the house where the old wood floors are rotting and someone could easily fall through.
Her mother will have to quit her receptionist job to stay home with Madalynn during her recovery period which is said to take up to six months or more depending on how well she adapts to prosthetics. We are very hopeful that she will adapt just fine. She seems to have an amazing personality and this condition she was born with has never held her back, not even for a moment. Since we know that her mother will have to resign her employment position we are truly trying to save as much money as we can so we can purchase the things that medical insurance will not cover. Some of these things are fuel to travel back and forth to doctor appointments and pharmacy, co-pays on doctor appointments, co-pays on prescriptions filled, bandages, tape, gauze, paying utilities. These bills are already a struggle each month so missing her mother's income will hurt us pretty bad financially.
