Our hearts are completely broken.... LVMPD killed our beloved Ronnie Williams.
On Thursday, September 5, by 1500 W. Bonanza Rd, Byron Williams, 50, was pulled over by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police for allegedly riding his bicycle with no safety lights. Body cam footage shows Williams initially running but then surrendering by laying face down on the ground with his limbs spread. Approximately 7 LVMPD officers arrived to apprehend Williams. One officer then pinned Williams to the ground using his knee, and shortly after Williams began struggling to breathe. Williams repeatedly uttered, “I can't breathe, please help” while LVMPD officers laughed, gave each other high-fives, saying “ain’t nobody coming for you” and ignored Williams' pleas for help. At one point, the officers demanded Williams to stand up. As he struggled, one of the officers can be heard saying, “If you don't get up and walk we're gonna fuckin' drag you” another officer's knee pinned Williams to the ground and Williams can be heard screaming for help and uttering, “I can't breathe.” Shortly after, all the body cameras shut off at once and when they are turned back on, Williams is laying lifeless on his back with EMT attempting to resuscitate him using CPR.
Byron Williams was loved by many as we continue to speak on his behalf. We are fighting for justice and fairness - not just for our family but for all!!!
