Byker Kitchen Garden
North East Wilds CIC, in association with Byker Community Centre and Chilli Studios, are fundraising for the Byker Community Garden project. All funds raised will contribute to the purchase of compost, seedlings and other gardening equipment and will help the project to continue to expand into a long term, sustainable “no-dig” space that's beneficial for the environment and the local residents.
Since lockdown began to ease, North East Wilds have been working with a team of local volunteers and adults with additional needs to create a “pick your own” herb and vegetable garden as well as producing jams and other preserves from fruits that have been grown in the space.
The community gardening project has provided a much needed lifeline for all participants, volunteers and staff; helping them to readjust to socialising after lockdown and to learn practical skills such as how to grow your own vegetables and how to maintain a garden space.
All of the money that’s donated will be invested straight back into the garden and will help this incredibly valuable scheme to continue to grow and benefit the local community!
