This is Justin Bruce, Justin was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease July12th 2014. This is a Terminal disease that has already started to affect Justin. There is no known cure. The nerves affected with ALS are the ones that control voluntary movement and muscle control. This means as the neurodegenerative disease progresses through his body, he will lose ability to walk, talk, eat, and eventually breathe for himself.
Justin’s symptoms have progressed extremely quickly, with the first signs in February 2014. By the time Justin was diagnosed he already was unable to walk efficiently, or effectively use his right arm and hand. At this time Justin is undergoing Physical Therapy and continued treatment at the University Of Colorado Hospital. At this point the DR'S have informed Justin and his family that he will need to use a walker with a gait belt, he is unable to work, drive, cook, or even take care of basic daily needs alone. He has been told by DR'S that he is to be under 24 hour supervision, and care.
This is not only a daunting physical task, but a monumental psychological burden and a huge financial responsibility. Justin will be survived by Jordan (17), Cameron (14) and little Alexis (3) pictured above. As I’m sure you can understand this will be devastating for the children.
Justin needs your help, his children need your help. This money will go to treatment, including finding Justin a residence that is wheelchair accessible, costly procedures, medical bills, and 24 hour care. Any money that is left over once Justin passes, will be put in trust funds for his surviving children. Please open your hearts and help Justin stick around as long as possible to spend time with his family.
