Montina's Medical Care and Expenses

Donation protected
Hello friends and family,

As you all know Montina has been battling cancer for over a year now. Just to give you a sense of the timeline here are some of the details starting from initial diagnosis to now:

7/2/13 - mass found
7/8 - biopsy
7/12 - diagnosis of metastatic melanoma - brain tumor was secondary and trying to figure out initial origin of tumor)
7/26 - Craniotomy #1 to remove tumor from right parietal lobe via center of brain.. deep and connected to motor cortex, significant impairment to left side of body.
Sept - Cyberknife Radiosurgery of tumor cavity – which went very well and cavity still appearing clear
Oct - Symptoms - exhausted, couldn't concentrate, left hand weakness
10/19 - Seizure and second brain mass found in ER
10/31 - Pre-op - tumor was located on the surface of the right prefrontal/parietal lobe at the top of the biopsy path.
11/1 - Craniotomy #2 to remove second brain tumor – Montina was stronger and more energetic the day of surgery her left side function was still considerably affected (for instance typing was very difficult) but it had continued to improve since surgery. 11/4 - Discussion with radiation oncologist - . - 'non discrete uptake' detected on PET in right forearm and foot...

November-Jan Montina was recovering from her 2nd Craniotomy and although exhausted from all the chemo and radiation treatments, she was also going through some life changes. She celebrated her birthday, and decided to move in with family members to conerve finances.

Additionally, she got to experience one of her lifelong dreams by going to Bali. Several months later, Montina’s health drastically declined after yet another craniotomy, prompted by swelling of the brain due to an infection.  As a result of that last surgery, her motor skills and speech were severely compromised along with full paralysis of the left side of her body. This decline has been emotionally and physically trying on her health and morale, as well as  her family and friends who care and support her. In spite of these limitations, she was able to attend Eli's graduation in June.

Although Kaiser picks up the primary medical expenses, the  associated costs of transpotation, food and home care have nearly exhausted her financial reserves. In addition, her disability payments ended in July, which represents a $2000 per month reduction in income.

We would like to provide some financial relief to her family and our dear friend by raising enough money (a goal of at least $20,000) to help cover, her ongoing medical care, caretaker expenses, food and daily costs.

As we all know, Montina  is one of the most amazing, caring and selfless individuals who has greatly touched all of our lives. She has always lived her life with passion, and zest and is a great friend, sister, mother and a great inspiration to many. Please show your support by donating funds to help with her  ongoing medical care. Thank you in advance!
