Hurricane Harvey/Hernandez Home

Hi friends. My name is Karla Nelson and I moved to California in 2005 but I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. As many of you know my mom, dad, Edyltrudis and Jose Hernandez, brother and sister still live in Houston and the flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey devastated our neighborhood and home that we have lived in since 1992.

Both of my parents cars were filled with water; they're totaled. Water reached our home and flooded just a little past waist high. Needless to say, most of my parents items got damaged. They're having to gut our house to avoid mold, and already the house smells musty. Most items, including electronics, will need to be replaced. Like many families my parents don't have flood insurance. The city fixed the roads and drainage system so our neighborhood hasn't flooded since Tropical Storm Allison. I know many families have stories similar to this and I feel guilty even asking; however, if you can spare even $5, know you're helping my family rebuild not a house but their home. My parents would never ask for money, they believe in working hard and providing for your family. And I wouldn't ask except the amount that they are going to have to spend is insane and I hope y'all can help put a dent in that. The money will go to rebuilding the house, buying material like Sheetrock, insulation, paint, cabinets, labor, furniture and living essentials.
