I am currently a second year counseling student at Dallas Theological Seminary, and I am raising support for the 2014-2015 school year at Dallas Theological Seminary.
When I was a child I had been afflicted by seizures from three until five years of age, specifically grand mal/ tonic-clonic seizures. Neurologists had expressed a very small possibility that I would complete elementary school, and be able to have reasoning skills. I was told I would be stunted at the mental age of a five year old and not be able to live a "normal" life. While attending church one Sunday morning, the pastor of the church prayed a simple prayer for me and as my parents have recounted, I left church miraculously healed. It has since been 22 years and counting, and I have been seizure free. Having experienced all of this, and now fully realized the power of this testimony. It makes me realize how people might have told me that my brain would not work, and that I would not go far cognitively, but despite what they said, I did the opposite, and now I am pursuing professional counseling in a graduate program. I believe that God is preparing me to use my mind to help other people be healed in their mind.
Having completed 1 year already, I know that I am in the right place. It is here that God is cultivating the gifts and talents that he put in me. I look forward to entering the field of professsional counseling, specifically, Marriage and Family Therapy in the next few years.
Despite all of this, studying here at Dallas Seminary is expensive. I have a wonderful job that helps with cultivating counseling skills as well as help cover my living expenses. At present, I cannot work enough to pay for school outright. Starting in January I will also begin my clinical internship which I look forward to. I am a life long learner and always look for opportunities to learn and grow more, but my internship will take more time as well. As such, I need more help this school year financially.
