I am Ssifu Clinton Kibuuka, the founder of Bwengula Circus Kids from Kosovo Community in Kampala, Uganda. I was born and raised up from Kosovo Slum in Kampala Uganda. I am an Artist doing acrobatics and gymnastics for a social change. The arts of acrobatics and gymnastics have transformed my life since I was a little kid. Now it is time to give back to the community!
My dream of bringing a change in the slums of Lungujja, Kosovo through Bwengula Circus Project (since 2018) was really going well. People were donating on a regular basis for the well-being of our kids and supporting us all the way through tough and good situations.
Unfortunately many things changed since the break out of the pandemic ‘COVID-19’.
Work opportunities reduced and so as the number of the kids training at the centre everyday.
We kept taking care of most of the children until when the situation got worse. Without any support from the government, we had to fight hard to keep catering for the children.
The number was reduced from 100 to 50 kids of which most of them had no shelter, no parents and nothing to eat. Food became very expensive as well as all the other necessities.
It’s very sad that most of these hard situations affect the poor community and the people who are supporting the cause.
This forced most of the kids to go back to the streets looking for the everyday needs.
Sadly this increases the risk of becoming drug addicts and criminals but not doing all of that out of their willing but because of the hard situation they’re facing with no mentorship and parental guidance.
On top of all of this, one of our major challenge is the location of our training center. Right now it is in an open space where random people of the community can pass by and even interfere with our on going program.
Our Goal is to buy a piece of land out of the city to give a safe environment to our kids and where we will be able to do farming and grow crops for home consumption.
