Buy a Tile • Replace the Roof- Tacaigh le Teileann

Buy a Tile | Replace the Roof | Tacaigh le Teileann - €50.00

Coláiste Aoidh Mhic Bhricne, Teelin is inviting you to “Buy a Tile”, at the cost of €50, to help support essential repairs and redevelopment of the College and Nursery Roof, alongside the installation of a new central heating system for the College, the first of its kind in the college since it was opened almost 70 years ago.

Tá cuireadh ort tacú le tionscadal nua tiomsaithe airgid de chuid Choláiste Aoidh Mhic Bhricne agus Coiste Ionad Pobail Theilinn. Le chéile, tá fís againn obair mhór a dhéanamh ar an choláiste, áit atá ag cur fáilte roimh scoláirí Gaeilge chun na Gaeltachta le beagnach 70 bliain.

Coláiste Aoidh Mhic Bhricne in Teelin is home to the Irish language Gaeltacht summer college and the local Irish language nursery. Opened in 1955, the college in Teelin has welcomed over 10,000 students to Teelin down through the years. Students come to Teelin to stay with local families and to learn Irish at the college each summer, partaking in cultural, local and sporting activities throughout their stay. Decades of Bean an tí’s and local families have opened their doors to language learners from across Ireland.

Now, as we pass through the summer of 2020, the COVID pandemic has given us the opportunity to carry out vital repairs and redevelopment, work that we have been preparing for for well over a decade.

Anois, ar an drochuair, agus dámaiste mór déanta don díon, ní mór dúinn gníomhú agus díon úr cothrom a chur ar an Choláiste. Ní fiú an obair sin, áfach, mura ndéanann muid an infhéistíocht chuí sa teach iomlán, le coras teasa agus ábhar cearta a dhéanfaidh insliú ar an teas sin. Cé gur togra agus tionscadal mór é seo, is obair riachtanach í. Gan an infhéistíocht seo, ní bheidh muid ábalta an foirgneamh a úsáid mar is ceart arís amach anseo.

Unfortunately, due to the rapid deterioration of the roof at the College, this work now needs carried out immediately, to ensure the Nursery can re-open in September 2020 and to ensure the Gaeltacht Summer College can re-open in Summer 2021.

The work is laid out in 3 Core Phases:

Phase 1a - New Flat roof (trocal finish) above the Nursery and the Kitchen (urgent)
Phase 1b - Appoint consultant to plan remaining roof, safety & heating plan
Phase 1c - New Flat roof (trocal finish) & repairs on all other parts of the College roof
Phase 2 - Insulation of main hall roof - Repair of any windows to assist heat retention
Phase 3 - Installation of new central heating system for entire College & Nursery

The repair and development work is being carried out in accordance with the Department for the Gaeltacht’s guidelines for ‘Clár Tacaíochtaí Pobail agus Teanga’ (CTPT), a program provided to assist community-based committees/organisations, operating through Irish with support for costs associated with the construction or renovation of community facilities in Gaeltacht areas.

We are in the process of submitting applications for grant assistance under this programme. All of the works will be guided by best practice as set out by the Department for the Gaeltacht, to ensure they meet all requirements on building safety, fire safety and value for money.

Déanfar an obair seo a chur i gcrích i gcomhar le agus de réir treoirlíntí dea-chleachtais atá leagtha amach ag Roinn na Gaeltachta.

The estimated cost of all works amounts to over €100,000+. Factoring in the application for 80% funding, the amount we now have to raise to begin to cover the remaining costs is €20,000+. As we work through the project and into Phases 2 and 3 we may have to adjust the final target and carry out further fundraising to cover additional or increased costs. This will be done in conjunction with advice from the official consultant and standards guidance from Dep Gaeltacht.

As the condition of the roof deteriorates, these funds are now needed urgently, as is the commencement of the work on Phase 1 .

Tá muid ag iarraidh ar phobal na teanga, ar phobal na Gaeltacht, ar iar-scoláirí agus ar chairde Theilinn, tacaígí linn. Ní féidir linn seo a dhéanamh gan bhur gcuidiú.

We are asking you to support our Gaeltacht community. As friends of Teelin, past students, past staff, múinteoirí and ceannairí, and all those who have come through our doors, we are asking you to give something back.

This work will ensure we can re-open our doors and will ensure a safe, warm and welcoming college that will welcome future generations of Irish language learners, and one that will provide vital community accommodation for the local Naíscoil Aoidh Mhic Bhricne and the numerous groups and events that take place in the College throughout the year.

#BuyATile yourself for €50 or #BuyATile as a family or a group of friends. Whatever way you can support us, the entire Teelin family will be hugely grateful.

Is féidir seo a dhéanamh leat féin. Is féidir leat cupla tíl a cheannach más mian leat. Nó is féidir fosta costas a roinnt idir grúpaí cairde. Beidh muid iontach buíoch as aon chuidiú agus as gach píosa tacaíochta, beag nó mór.

***All names of donors and contributors listed on this GoFundMe page will be placed on a special commemorative plaque on the College Wall upon completion of the project.***
