Butch Jasper's Medical Fund

On January 22nd 2018 Butch and Cathy Jasper's whole world turned upside down when Butch was diagnosed with a very rare blood cancer called Waldenstrom s Macroglobonemia.

Over the past year he has been suffering from severe bloody noses and headaches. Each time he was rushed to the hospital they would cauterized veins and put a balloon inside his nose, which was extremely painful, and then send him home confident that they fixed the problem.  Well, the problem wasn't fixed and within a week our mom would have to take him back to the hospital and it would start all over. The first time this happened was in December 2016 then in April 2017 and then consistently since October 2017.

For those of you who do not know this is our dad's second time fighting cancer. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2006, after his surgery and chemo he was told he was cancer free but had to have his blood work done every year. This year the proteins in his blood work were dangerously high. They called him at home and said he had to get back to the hospital immediately because normal protein count is between 200-300 and my dads were 9200. Turns out the bloody noses and headaches were both symptoms of this blood cancer.

While Butch was in the hospital he had to have a bone marrow biopsy, the first doctor that tried to do it hit his sciatic nerve and damaged it, it took 3 tries to get it right. Because of the pain my dad is in from the damaged nerve my mom has had to take him to the emergency room twice and on the second time he was there for almost a week. They decided to start his chemo early because they give him steroids with the treatment and hope that that will start the healing process. He is slowly feeling better but still unable to be on his own so  Cathy was forced to take a leave of absence from work so she could be at home with him.

Our dad is on Rituximab and Bendamustine, doctors have sloppy writing so that may not be spelled right, he has treatments 2 days on and 28 days off for the next 4 months.

We set up the fund raiser for our parents because during dads first fight with cancer him and mom cashed in their IRA'S to pay for medical bills and lost wages since dad was unable to work for some time. We would like to raise enough money to help them pay any bills they incur during this journey so they don't have any added stress and they can focus on healing.

A few words from the Scissors Edge Family:

Cathy has been a loyal, dependable, trustworthy employee and friend to all of us at Scissors Edge Salon for over 30 years. Her positive upbeat demeanor has brought joy to many of us on a daily basis. Cathy now needs some help and positive support from all of us. Cathy has taken a leave of absence from work to care for Butch during his treatment. As a result their income will be greatly diminished. Let's try to contribute whatever we can to make their lives a bit less stressful during this frightening and turbulent period.
