Our 10 days for $10,000 is making great progress. Thank you to all who have contributed. We are having the groundbreaking ceremony for the first two classrooms next week. Let's try to have two more classrooms by the fall.

We are thrilled to announce a new matching grant. For the next ten days, any donations made to this GoFundMe campaign will be doubled by our matching grant. If you give $50, it will become $100! Just like magic!!! Please give what you can to help build a preschool for young children in Butanuka, Burundi.
Thank you in advance.

Do you want to join me in making a difference for young children in a very poor country? The Dreaming for Change USA team is raising money to build a four classroom preschool in rural Butanuka, Burundi. We have successfully  Phase 1 and are finishing Phase 2 in April. We are ready to start Phase 3 of our project. Here are the Phases of our preschool program.

Phase 1: The first preschool began in Butanuka in February, 2020, when Dr. Connie Green traveled to Burundi to teach 26 four and five year old children. She modeled developmentally appropriate practices for the two teachers who continued the program. Ten children graduated in May and ten new children joined the class in September, 2020. The program continues to make a difference in the lives of young children living in this impoverished community.  This phase was funded by a grant awarded to Janvier Manirakiza (Dreaming for Change, Burundi) and Connie Green (Dreaming for Change USA) by the U.S. Department of State.

Phase 2: In January of 2021, with a second grant from the U.S. Department of State and Partners for the Americas, we started a second preschool classroom by renovating an old building donated by the local government in Burundi. Volunteers put in new windows, added a new roof and whitewashed the walls. We have also added blocks, tables and chairs and other toys made by local carpenters and artisans to the first and second classrooms. The second photo above shows the children lined up for their first day of school in classroom two.
Early Childhood experts in the U.S. are training the teachers virtually in a series of 12 workshops taking place over three months.

Phase 3: We are now ready for the preschool to have a permanent home. The computer renditions show four spacious classrooms in two modules that fit beautifully on the land owned by Dreaming for Change. The teachers for all four classrooms are prepared to welcome 100 children to the new space.  See top picture.

Our new building will provide a light-filled environment where young children can learn through inquiry and play. The preschool will provide the children of Butanuka with a head start on their educational careers. Children who attend high quality early childhood programs are more successful in later schooling, are more likely to complete school, and have better earning potential as adults.

Any donation to our preschool building fund will help make an impact. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that will make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable young children in rural Burundi.
