Busard Family: a family torn apart

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Karrah Grimm, my family and I are organizing to help raise funds for my sister Kayla Busard and her beautiful family including her husband Kevin Busard and their two children Kinsley and Kolton.

The car accident:
Kevin was on his way home from picking their daughter up from a play date when travesty struck. An oncoming vehicle struck the passenger side of the vehicle Kevin was driving sending their car into a rollover. Kayla had no idea of the accident her family was just involved in, she happened to receive a report of an accident that took place in the same vicinity where her husband and child were just leaving. Kayla had a sense that something was not right (he was not answering his phone) and drove to the scene of the accident holding her breath not knowing what she would be driving up to. Not knowing if it was her husband and child who were involved in the accident nor the extent of the accident. When she arrived on the scene she was met with the sight of police, ambulances, the fire department and dozens of first responders working to pull her husband and daughter from the vehicle. Kinsley was pulled from the wreck awake and responsive while Kevin lay pinned in the vehicle breathing but unconscious and unresponsive. The team worked as quickly as they could to rescue him from the wreck using the jaws of life to pull him from the wreck and the extraction took 45 minutes. Kinsley was rushed to U of M for scans and testing while Kevin was taken to Sparrow hospital. Kayla has to be torn between the two and has to decide whether to go be with her daughter or her husband. Kayla knew Kevin would have wanted her to go be with their daughter first to make sure she was safe. Kevin always puts the kids first no matter what, that is what makes him an amazing father. Kayla knew that Kevin's wishes would be for her to go be with Kinsley to ensure their daughter was in good hands. Kinsley had Ct scans, Ultrasounds and xrays which all came back clear. Kayla then got a report from the hospital that Kevin has extensive injuries and will need to be taken to surgery. Kevin was suffering from a ruptured spleen, fractured pelvis and several brain bleeds. Our mother came to the hospital to be with Kinsley now that she was given a clean bill of health besides some abrasions so Kayla could go be at her husband's side. She prayed for him (knowing that God's healing hands and presence are needed to heal her husband and guide the hands of his care team) the whole drive from U of M to Sparrow while he was in surgery. She arrived while they finished his first surgery with reports that it went well but his brain bleeds have become more extensive and will need to be taken for surgery to remove half of his skull to alleviate the swelling and prevent any secondary complications. Kayla was able to briefly see him between surgeries to pray over him and whisper words of love to him as they took him off to a second more invasive surgery. Once Kevin was out of surgery they took him to a private room for recovery where Kayla will be able to be with him in his time of need. Our family has all rushed up there to be with her and taken rotations to be there and support her through this devastating time.

The Family:
Kayla and Kevin met years ago and their friendship quickly blossomed into a love story. Kevin and Kayla have always been dedicated to giving their kids the best lives possible. Kevin has been working full-time to support the family while Kayla continues her dream and education to become an RDH. Kevin never hesitated to work the long hours and weekends to be the provider for his family. He has always put them and their needs first despite the sacrifices he may have had to make (to him those sacrifices were well worth it). Kevin also never hesitate to help those in need. He worked in HVAC and was always the first to take the emergency job for families in need during the winter whose heat went out. No matter the time of day or night or on a weekend or holiday when he was supposed to be off he would be there to ensure families werent left in the cold. Anyone can father a child but not everyone can be a DAD and Kevin has been one of the many who wrote the book on being a Dad. He has never once waivered in his role as a father to his two beautiful children or his dedication to raising them. His love for his children and his wife exuviates from him and anyone around him can see his unwavering love for his family. Kevin has also been a devoted husband to Kayla and I do not think anyone could have better hand-picked a more suitable husband for her than how GOD chose Kevin for Kayla.
Sentiments from his Loving wife Kayla
This is our song,
“Forgive the urgency, but hurry up and wait
My heart has started to separate
Oh, oh
Be my baby
Oh, oh
Be my baby
I'll look after you”
it always meant so much because you looked after me when I needed it most and have always continued to, always support me, help me achieve my dreams, put yourself last to be there for for your family. Alls I want is my baby, my husband, to be okay, to be with my family as a whole.
Well, the tables have turned.
Now it’s my turn to look after you

They need our help:
Kevin will have a long road to recovery from his extensive abdominal injuries to his fractured pelvis and of most urgency his traumatic brain injury. The medical bills will be piling up along with the upkeep of their home and commuting to the hospital and home to check on their two children. Kevin is the sole provider and these responsibilities will all be falling onto Kayla while also having to take on caring for her husband while he recovers and finishing school. He will be in the hospital for some time we are unsure of how long that will be (it will be a long road ahead of them). Between an unknown length of time at the hospital along with the recovery and rehab that may be required with unknown brain cognitive/brain impairments. We hope to also provide a cushion to help with bills for a few months which will allow Kayla to be able to be active in his care and recovery as he needs her by his side. The doctors have not given any prognosis and Kevin is still on a ventilator along with being placed under medical sedation to allow his body to rest. We are taking the small wins along the way along with any big wins we can get. MRI showed no brain stem or spinal cord which is a BIG win. He was responding to painful stimuli at his last neurological check which is another win. They will have to leave his skull removed to allow for rebound swelling and will re-evaluate placing the skull back after about day 3. They found he has a mandibular fracture as well but is stable at this time. With a long hospital stay ahead and the possibilities of PT and a long road to recovery and healing. This is just the beginning of his journey to come back to his family. Please don’t let your prayers lose momentum, we aren’t out of the woods yet, and aren’t at the most critical point in the potential for swelling yet. Please pray for continued wins, and a hopeful cognitive outcome from this. Right-side motor movement during neuro checks is still significantly decreased, as the left side of the brain was affected. Sedation will continue to allow for more healing. Kayla has been active in her community during her dental program to give back to the community and provide dental hygiene at a local low-cost dental clinic Vena Dental. Now is a time we can repay the kindness she has shown to support her and her family. As a community I know we can come together to help support them in their time of need. Our family is working to put together a meal train to help with meals and food for her while staying in the hospital. We are turning to the help of our beloved community that we have all been a part of our whole lives. They say it takes a village and it truly does in these situations not only are we asking for donations to help with their support of them in this time of devastation but we are true believers in the power of prayer and the healing hands of God. We ask you to say a prayer just 5 minutes out of your day to send the love and support of the community and fill his room with God's presence. If you attend church please put in a request with your church to pray for him and their family. If you can donate just know that they truly appreciate it and it will go a long way to help Kayla be able to be there to support and care for her husband and two children. From our family to yours we thank you!
