Burning man art - Psychedelicactus

GO! Bringing art to Burning Man is no easy feat. Obstacles present themselves at every turn, from getting tickets to getting ice, and overcoming those obstacles is what makes the experience so rich. It can be said that it is the worst conditions to have the best time in. I've contributed to playa art previously, but have never brought my own unique vision to the playa... until now. Originally I applied to have the semicircle of Cacti pictured, but it has evolved into one refined Cactus tree, but with the added flourish of quartz crystals where the cactus pricks would be. Elevating the art to more than just a silly totem, it now is a bona-fide Cactivation zone, a safe place for you to make a cactass of yourself or a good backdrop to get grounded and cactivate the sacred silly within.

Although I wasn't granted funding, I was granted placement and an Art support camp to bring the Psychedelicactus to the burn. The Psychedelicactus will be placed in the Playa park and the Cactus Campus can be found at 4:44/F. Now the fund part begins!

FUND! The art itself is designed to challenge perspective. From one angle, a narrow perspective, only a 1.5" thick line would appear; but faced head on it is an illuminating cactus tree hybrid towering over 8' tall. Inspired by the Mojave desert where I dwell, the Psychedelicactus is one part Joshua Tree, one part Yucca and one part creative license; adorned with Quartz crystals atop embedded LED's, its glow will cast shadows in the night. The wood grains accented with green stain and highlights embellished with reflective, green glass bead paint. It touches on elements of sacred and silly to help ground out weary travelers or cactivate those embarking on a new journey. Like a cartoon image sprung to life, the Psychedelicactus challenges perspective while being a grounding rod for your funny bone. Did I mention it'll look great on your gram?



The art itself is underway, the crystals have been selected, the paint ordered; the welding is being contracted as are the LED installation and programming. I also want to add a sound component to give it its own soundtrack or the wild weird west. So studio time, playback device and power problems all need to be solved. Busy, busy, busy. Making the whole thing transportable nearly 1,000 miles and anchoring it in place is another endeavor in itself, but we got this! 



We're still working on bringing the nuances and embellishments to fruition oaths project. We fried the first arduion and have to get it back into LED repair-ville!

Burn itinerary: Monday we'll have a dual perspective ribbon cutting, with a ribbon cutting for two sides of the Psychedelicactus! On Taco Tuesday there will be piping hot cactus tacos, serving up fresh corn tortillas topped with seared cactus and salsa and Thirsty we'll see ice cold Cactus Coolers making the rounds. As early adopters, you get to be notified where and when these activities will happen, but wait, there's more!

ME! Creativity is lifelong passion and obsession of mine. I'm a single father of two wonderful children and bringing art to the burn is a substantial effort and undertaking. Every dollar raised will be used to cultivate Psychedelicactus and foster a state of silliness on the playa. Don't be a prick, stick a reward feather in your cap! Now there are indeed some Cacti necklaces floating around and if you find me at the burn, there is one reserved just for you!

At the $33 donation level, you will receive one Psychedlicactus pendent on a 18" corded necklace. The pendant stones 2" tall. 30 are available.

At the $44 donation level you will receive the 3" pendent on a sterling silver chain in a hand stenciled, natural cotton drawstring bag. Only 10 Available.
