BBP’s Mission is to provide educational opportunities and psychosocial support to some of the more than two million refugees from Burma living in Thailand. The refugee children we serve on the Thai-Burma border wouldn't have access to the life opportunities that an education makes possible without BBP's support. Too impoverished to attend Thai schools, these children attend a network of alternative schools called Migrant Learning Centers, which BBP supports in essential ways: from teacher salaries to classroom renovations. We've been serving the Burmese community living in Thailand for 20 years, and never have we heard such urgent cries for help as now due to COVID-19.
Burma Border Boogie’s Mission:
COVID-19 has impacted everyone on the planet, but the refugees in the Thai-Burma border region are both more at risk for catching the virus, as well as more vulnerable to the economic and social consequences associated with pandemic policies. Our community members live in often cramped quarters with insufficient and unreliable access to basic resources. Many don't have sufficient water to wash their hands, increasing the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission in their communities. Pandemic lockdowns and movement restrictions leave more refugees without work each day, and many now lack access to basic necessities, including food. We've continued to pay teacher salaries despite school closures at the Migrant Learning Centers we support, but the needs in the communities we serve are running high, and we lack the funds to continue our vital work.
We need your help to reach our fundraising goal of $ 7.000 so we can keep paying our teachers and feed families who are running on empty. Help us to enable teachers to keep on being teachers without having to look elsewhere for work, so they can continue to offer sanctioned home teaching visits to keep educating children. Your donation will fill a stomach, and make sure that our kids continue to be schooled so their dreams for the future can take wing.
