Struggling to find work

In 2012, my husband and I were both working full time and we were making good enough money that we were finally able to move out of my parents house and buy our first home. Our kids for the first time each had their own bedroom. We were able to buy groceries without cringing or having to put things back. For the first time in several years we felt good about ourselves and financially secure. Then 2013 hit us hard, my husband lost his job in February. I told him it was a great time for him to go back to college and persue a career in computers; something he has been wanting to do for a while. He agreed and signed up for classes. Then in June, only a few months after he lost his job and a couple weeks before his summer classes began, I was laid off by my job as well. A family of five, a new mortgage, cars that are nearing the end of their lifespan and the bills keep piling up. We are drowning; part time work, freelance work, cleaning peoples homes, fixing computers, filling out applications and sending out resumes. We are trying everything and anything to support our family without my husband needing to stop going to school, but we are getting nowhere. I have a lot of pride and so does my husband, and it pains me to even be asking for help, but as a friend said to me.. sometimes you just have swallow your pride and do what needs to be done to feed your children. So here I am, asking.. I am asking, because our kids need school supplies. I am asking because, no matter how many odd jobs we do, we are still behind on the bills. I am asking because I know that given some more time we will be okay again. My husband and I understand that we are not the first or only family that has been hit hard with the economy and almost feel guilty for asking for help, but I know in my heart that as soon as we are back on our feet we will pay it forward.
