Building Sustainability For Maasai Village

Donation protected
Hello beautiful people. My name is Petrena, I am from Canada and I come to you with an open  heart and the desire to improve the lives of others. I have spent 3 months in total between 2 visits, in a Maasai village in Tanzania. I was brought in as family, and I was privileged to be immersed in their beautiful culture. It is hard to put into words how incredible my time with them was. I will say, I cried when I was leaving both times. I am so grateful they are a part of my life. They did so much for me, I want to do something amazing for them as they have experienced a lot of hardships recently.
They had a big portion of their cattle stolen(which is their currency)and one of the young family members of 18 years was in the hospital for over a month and a half with sepsis, and his caretaker with him has slept on a cement floor at the hospital for a month, because they have no money for a room to stay by his side. Thanks to this fundraiser, we were able to pay all of the hospital fees with came close to $1000. After being released, he had to get re-admitted to the hospital, and they have no way to pay for this. Healing from sepsis is a battle. I would love to help them build a better future.
Before this illness, they said to me they wanted to start a business in their village, a hardware store, and I want nothing more than for them to have this, so they can begin to create more sustainability. With what we have raised so far, after paying hospital fees, I was able to pay the children's school fees and buy them all school clothes, I bought them loads of fresh, healthy food which is something they lack everyday. As we don't have enough to get the business going yet, I gave them the startup money to starting buying and selling cows at the market. This means, they go to very remote markets, buy a couple of cows, and then transfer them to a bigger market to sell for a marked up price. This gives them a bit of immediate income, while we work on raising what we need for the hardware store.   If I can surpass the amount needed for the business startup, I also want to help them buy more equipment such as a maize grinder, that they could use as a business to grind maize into powder for the staple dish of Ugali. The women also love the idea of have the business costs to start marketing and selling their handmade traditional Maasai jewelry. All of these things would completely change their lives, and help them create more business and greater sustainability. Please allow me to introduce my dear Maasai friends.

About me -

I am an avid lover of life, adventure, people and cultures. I led volunteer projects in the jungles of Central and South America, I completed a solo trip across Africa, from South Africa to Egypt, taking local buses and carrying a portable massage table. I began my travel channel on Youtube a few years ago and this past year I have been in Africa, the continent that stole my heart. My motto in life is to always leave people and places elevated and even better then how I found them. I love creating opportunities for others to also have sustainable living.
