Building Global Citizenship

Monica Law, an 8th grade student at Feaster Charter has the unique opportunity to travel abroad to China. While there, she will be able to explore the city and attend local schools across Mainland China. The trip to China, starting in October of 2018, will be the first time that Monica Law has been out of the country. She has been chosen from a list of applicants to attend this trip because of her excellent citizenship and her 4.0 GPA. Throughout her time at Feaster, Monica has warmed the hearts of every educator and visitor who has come on campus. Serving as a student ambassador who hosts school site visits, Monica has many opportunities to demonstrate her strength in character. Monica is an amazingly well rounded student who maintains a 4.0 GPA while still competing on the track team and even representing Feaster Charter School at the 2018 Chula Vista Elementary School District Speech Competition! Her academics, team commitment, and strength in character all make her so beyond deserving of this opportunity. We cannot let anything stand in the way of providing Monica with every single opportunity possible which is why we are working to fundraise!

Part of this opportunity requires Monica to pay a significant amount of money or to host visiting students. Many of our families in the low income area of Chula Vista do not have the means to do this and their homes do not have enough rooms to accommodate guests. Therefore, we are reaching out to others who would be able to help sponsor our students in order to bring them this great opportunity to grow both socially and emotionally.

About  Global Citizenship

When students are between 11 - 13 years old, they are learning to develop empathy and understand more about their culture as well as other cultures around the world. With this opportunity to grow as global citizens, we are hoping that our students who participate in this trip abroad return with increased social awareness and a better understanding of empathy.

As a school in an underserved area, we understand that it is our responsibility as well as part of our mission to bring about opportunities that our children would not otherwise have. Traveling abroad is one of those opportunities and with our partnerships with schools in China, we are thrilled to be able to bring this opportunity to our children. It is with your support and financial help that we can truly help develop global citizenship skills within our children.
