Building back after the storm

Tax deductible
Our Need---We are asking our rowing and paddling communities for help!

On February 14, 2021, ice and snow deposited by the polar vortex which hit Portland, Oregon, caused the partial collapse of a warehouse roof housing the equipment of several members of Portland Boathouse.  Portland Boathouse represents five individual organizations who work together with a shared mission.  Two of our members, Rose City Rowing Club and Station L Rowing Club, suffered the most direct losses: eight rowing shells and two coaching launches were damaged or destroyed.

In total, tens of thousands of dollars of rowing shells, launches and other equipment stored for the winter lie buried under debris. Other shells, although currently undamaged, cannot be safely removed.  The damaged building remains fragile, closed to entry, and in danger of another collapse, leaving more boats and equipment at risk.

Your donations will help immensely as we grapple with this loss. While we work with engineers and the building owner to save other boats and as much equipment as possible, we still face significant financial needs.  Insurance will cover a portion of the shell replacement costs but deductibles must be paid and day-to-day operating necessities need to be purchased: from launches and gas cans to replacement tools, spare parts and life jackets.

The funds you help raise will reimburse the affected Portland Boathouse organizational members with replacement equipment, parts and new operational costs associated with the collapse of the roof.  Please help us come back strong!

The mission of the Portland Boathouse is to provide access to the Willamette River for people of all ages and abilities so that they may participate in safe recreational and competitive rowing and paddle sports in an atmosphere of mutual respect and camaraderie, while promoting stewardship of the river.  Portland Boathouse is comprised of Rose City Rowing Club , Station L Rowing Club , Portland State University Crew , Wasabi Paddling Club , and Willamette Riverkeeper .
